There is good news and bad news for Apple laptop users. The good news is that Apple just unveiled and updated its Pro lineup of laptops. The bad news is that this update comes at a cost in terms of features in addition to being more expensive.
First up let’s look at the good news in more detail. The three new models all come with a bump in processor, memory, and storage. The biggest news is the debut of the Touch Bar. This touch screen takes the place of the function key row at the top of the keyboard. It also introduces the Touch ID sensor to the Mac lineup for the first time. The sensor is towards the extreme right of the Touch Bar. The Touch Bar is available on two of the three models introduced. These are also the thinnest and lightest MacBook Pro’s ever made.
The bad news is that all ports have been removed in favor of USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 combo ports. The top two models that sport the Touch Bar have four of these ports. The lower end Macbook Pro 13” which does not have the Touch Bar only have two of these ports, both on the left side. This lower end Pro takes the place of the 13” MacBook Air in the laptop lineup. Another issue here is the price. The cheapest Touch Bar Macbook Pro 15” now starts at $1,799 and the 13” without the Touch Bar starts at $1,499.
