Skype will begin to sync chat messages across devices in the next few months after this flaw has gained more notice among users.
This development which was posted at Skype’s official blog by the Skype team, also revealed, “We also know that people are engaging more and more with each other and with Skype across multiple devices at home, on the go, and at work so we are working to synchronize chat message status across all of your devices so you will know the current status of all of your chats on every device you use to interact with Skype. This capability will be rolling out across clients over the next few months.”
The resolution of this issue comes as a result of logging into another device (your phone, for example) which then downloads and alerts you of all the messages that you might have received in the past, and which you have already seen. In some cases, this causes the application to hang or crash.
Yet with Microsoft’s announcement citing ‘the next few months’, it’s hard to say when this issue will be resolved.
In recent weeks, the company has focused a significant amount of its resources to work on the Skype platform. Moving the focus away from Skype’s peer-to-peer nature for centralized devices, it has rolled out a new backend architecture and has added a number of changes for the same.
For example, it has added web-based Skype support for Outlook.com and has also launched push notifications for Windows Phone 8 as well.
