Samsung and Apple have been fighting for the throne when it comes to who is the biggest smartphone seller in the world.
So far, and according to research by Counterpoint, Apple is the clear winner since it has sold more smartphones than any of its rivals this quarter.
That said, Samsung has managed to sell far more handsets than any other retailer has been able to do so.
Moreover, it’s clear that the choice of OS is Android as it registered for 59.2 percent of sales while iOS ony managed 36.9 percent. They have left Windows Mobile and Blackberry far behind as they registered less than 4 percent and 1 percent of the market respectively.
Among the top four smartphone retailers, Apple sold the most phones for AT&T, Sprint and Verizon while Samsung won the contest for T-Mobile.
With the clear winner being the iPhone, AT&T sold 52 percent, Verizon sold 51 percent while Sprint sold 36 percent. Overall, smartphone sales have increased by 7 percent with almost 87 percent of phones in the United States falling in this category.
Yet it’s hard to say who will stay on top as Apple takes its time and releases a few products every year while Samsung floods the market with both cheap and expensive devices that run on Android.
But what is for sure is that these are the only two manufacturers in the market with real power and will continue to remain so as long as all these two continue to upgrade and improve their products.
