As Google has just released its “best stuff of year” list, in terms of downloaded content, the list as such isn’t very different from the list that Apple released too.

What is noteworthy is that Frozen, The Walking Dead and Fancy by Iggy Azalea were all at the top of their respective categories even though the app list was very different from that of Apple’s playlist.

The reason for this is because Apple’s decision is based on their editors while Google analyzes popularity by the number of downloads.

Among the apps to make it to the top of Google Play’s list, Pandora, Flipagram, NFL Mobile, Tripadvisor, Duolingo, Netflix, MyFitnessPal along with Facebook were some of them. Google’s list also revealed that the fastest growing category was that of Health & Fitness.

The top downloaded games in 2014 were Clash of Clans, Subway Surfers, Farm Heroes Saga, Don’t Tap the White Tile and Candy Crush Saga. As for gamer achievements, Play Games users unlocked about 3.5 billion achievements in 2014.

As for Movies and TV, Toy Story and Robin Williams were adjudged the Comeback Movie of the Year as well as the most searched actor on Google Play. The books of the year were Fifty Shades of Grey, The Fault in our Stars, Divergent, Insurgent and Twelve Years a Slave.

Finally, the news sources of the year include The Verge, Forbes Now, The Daily Beast, The Huffington Post, Gizmodo, Android Central, The New York Times, TMZ and The Wall Street Journal.
