As of September 21, almost 46% of iPhone users have adopted iOS 8 while another 49% are still using the iOS 7 update.

According to iClarified, which was responsible for putting these figures together, has noted that prior to user switching to iOS 8 since September 17, almost 90% of its iPhone users were using iOS 7.

It was only last week when a number of trackers reported that the adoption of iOS 8 was much slower than expected compared to the last major flagship update. In fact, Appsee and Mixpanel reported on 16% adoption rate in the first 24 hours for iOS 8 which was half the rate during the release of iOS 7.

One reason that experts believe slowed this process down was that the recent update required users to have a large amount of space on their phones so as to do an over the air update to iOS 8. The solution to this problem involved tethering their phones to a computer during the update process.

Another aspect that has been rolled out is the regulation of a queueing system for the iOS 8 update so as to avoid a frustrating experience the last time a major update such as this one took place.

That said, with it taking only one week for half of Apple’s user base to adopt iOS 8, this still is pretty impressive compared to Google’s Android, which took 40% of its users to adopt the new update in nine months.

As for the remaining 5% of iPhone users, they are still using an older iOS version.
